Time to say bye to 2008 and to LJ

Its time to say bye to 2008. In the mean while I had decided to say bye to livejournal blog too. Its not because livejournal isn't good enough. But I felt I need a blog owned by me :) Livejournal had supported me from past December 2005. My new blog is at core dump.

Platelet donation

Today morning I reached office. As usual booted lappy(achu). She booted well. As soon as I logged in to gmail, Ashish pinged me asking my blood group. As I am A+, I matched with one of the list he gave me. Ashish told me that Anitha will ping later. I was waiting for Anitha to come online. When she came online she asked my blood group and requested my mobile number. She mentioned, Shyam would call me in a few minutes. After a few minutes I got call from Shyam asking whether I could reach hospital.

Its for the first time I am donating blood. I felt proud about myself. I told my mother about the blood donation. She was little nervous. Shyam told me to reach Manipal hospital located at the old airport road(near to Leela Palace). I reached there in time. I was given a form to fill, where I found some funny questions(though they were not). One of the question was whether I had sex with any unkown person in past six months. Err.

My blood was taken for priliminary tests. It seemed ok. The doctor made me wait for nearly 20-30 mins to take my platelets.
Finally doctor called me around 4.30 PM. I wasn't nervous. I was nervous when I were a kid. Its been long time since any doctor had used syringe on me. By 6 PM doctor told me the game was over. I had the juice given by a nurse. I were feeling sleepy. I returned my home and had a good dinner with my room mate Vijay.

Am still sleepy :(.  Something good I did before my death :)

RMS visit to Bangalore

Friday I left my office as soon as my friend Renukaprasad told me to pick RMS from an auditorium near Reserve Bank of India, where he was listening to a live concert. I took an auto and went to meet Renukaprasad who was there with him. I joined RMS and Dora for the concert. He was loving the Indian classical dance and music. After the concert we moved to the house where he was staying. I brought him dinner. I never imagined in my life to have a dinner with RMS and Dora. I helped RMS to backup Dora's files from her laptop to an external harddisk. After the dinner I left my home with some sweet memories.

Saturday morning I woke up at 8 A.M. RMS had a talk at NMKRV college at Jayanagar. I reached little late because of not reading the mails properly. Well I managed to reach 1 hour late :) When I reached there Anivar was installing Debian in Dora Scilipoti's lappy.

Now I went inside the hall to take a snap of Richard.

After that I went to take a snap with Dora Scilipoti.

Took some snaps of Renukaprasad's kid. I love kids :)

A snap, I took when RMS released the book by clicking the website. You can go through this link.

After the event we moved to a restaurent to have food. I took a snap of Richard's lappy :)

After that I went along with RMS to visit the Ambedkar community computing center.

RMS inaugurated a room with Mani's painting.

I was thrilled by seeing the paintings of Mani. He used GIMP for painting.

Saru showed RMS the presentation using Open Office. RMS requested them to make 2 minor changes. Later he mentioned they were really small changes. He was really happy. Here are some of the snaps of RMS with Mani and his painting and saru.

RMS also released a book.

RMS answered few questions which the CCC people wanted to know. Senthil helped RMS to translate his speech to both Tamil and Kannada.

Altogether both the RV College event and Ambedkar CCC event were nice.

After the CCC event I went with RMS to the place where Indian classical music program was held. The program was held at Malleshwaram. During the journey we had a tea break. We moved to a restaurent where RMS checked his mail.

We reached Malleshwaram around 6.15 PM. After the program Dora Scilipoti wished to shop at Malleshwaram. I accompanied her to buy a bed sheet.

Free Software Free Society

The Free Software Movement, started about a quarter of a century back, pioneered the various movements for freedom in the digital world – for instance, free knowledge represented by Wikipedia or freedom of creative works from copyright restrictions represented by Creative Commons. We also see a new form of social production where collaboration becomes more important than competition, where people from different parts of the world co-operate to create digital products including documents, music or software.

This is the program being held at Trivandrum from 9th to 11th of December. The co-creator of wikipedia Jimmy Wales is  participating in the program as a speaker. Richard M Stallman is also giving his talk.

Read more about speakers here.

For registering this event you may go here.

I had booked my tickets to Trivandrum.

Get together

Yesterday I went to Balaji's house for a small get together party (Though the name given for the party was onam celebration). I saw Jaya after a long time. She was thinner during our college days. But after marriage she got fatter :).

Started cooking at 12 PM :) Initially Jaya and Shamila were in the kitchen. Later I joined with them.
I couldn't resist my hunger since I had skipped my breakfast(which had been my routine for past 2 years :)). One thing that I can guarantee you is that cooking is yet another art. First time you may fail to cook good food. But its the practice that makes you know when to add ingredients at what time and all. I had a good time in the kitchen. The most important thing that I had noticed was, 1 year of cooking had made me a decent cook (out of 10 marks I can give myself 8).

Sajith, Joshi, Joe, Kiran, Prasad, Mith and Surya were also there in the party.

Here are some of the snaps taken before we left Balaji's house.
